CHRIS SHAW
Chris graduated with a B.A. in Geology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1984. He then attended the University of Colorado, Boulder where he received his M.S. in Geology in 1987 and his PhD. in Geology in 1989. During his graduate studies, he worked as a geochemistry lab assistant and sedimentologist at the U.S. Geological Survey. Upon graduation,
Chris accepted a position at Exxon Production Research (EPR) Company in Houston, Texas. During his 10 years at EPR, he held various technical and management research positions including in basin modeling, geochemistry, seismic attribute interpretation, and 3D visualization technologies.
Chris then moved throughout various technical and management positions in
ExxonMobil’s upstream companies. In 2000, he transferred to ExxonMobil Exploration Company (EMEC), where he worked on international oil and gas exploration projects, primarily in the North Caspian Sea and the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa.
Afterwards, he moved to ExxonMobil Development Company where he supervised the development of oil and gas fields in offshore Angola. Chris returned to EMEC in 2009 where he was EMEC’s Global Portfolio manager. In early 2012, he moved to Jakarta, Indonesia to manage ExxonMobil’s exploration acreage and
subsequently to manage the development of recent oil and gas discoveries in their prolific Cepu block.
Chris moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in early 2016 to manage ExxonMobil’s offshore oil and gas assets there and then, in 2020, moved to Lagos, Nigeria to manage ExxonMobil’s shallow water joint venture assets. Chris retired from ExxonMobil in January 2021 and returned to Denver where he now enjoys bicycling, hiking and backpacking, skiing, golfing, traveling, and
making homemade beer.
